AT YOUR PAC
By Connie Waterman - Executive Director
April 30, 2009
On Saturday, May 9th you can enjoy the jazzy, bluesy, swingin’ sounds of Randy Sabien, internationally renowned jazz violinist. Randy is being joined by his 8 piece Fiddlehead Band, featuring the legendary Clyde Stubblefield on drums, providing a funky fusion of jazz, blues, fiddling and rock.
When Randy Sabien picks up his violin, get ready! His rhythmic, bluesy, swingin’ sound will have you bobbing your head, tapping your toes, and dancing right out of your chair. In its top album picks Billboard Magazine called Randy’s latest release “Uproarious good fun!” Randy Sabien has been one of those rare string musicians to be hailed as both a "violinist" and a "fiddler." USA Today said, "Jazz violinists usually draw from one of two traditions. The best of both can be found in the superb Randy Sabien, he combines classical technique and folk energy in a program that's still strictly jazz."
Sabien has been a frequent guest on "A Prairie Home Companion" and "Austin City Limits" and has toured the world playing in different styles and with many of music's greats.
In April Randy was the featured guest artist for the University of Wisconsin Marching Band’s spring concerts at the Kohl center. Past patrons may remember Randy performing with folk legend Tom Paxton at the PAC a few seasons ago. Randy’s diverse musical influences make him appealing to any audience – if you love music of any type, you’ll love Randy Sabien.
